Sandra Schpoont

FOUNDER

Clients say they hire Sandra because they feel she always has their best interest at heart. She attributes her trusting demeanor both to her upbringing and her early interest in psychology (she earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan and considered becoming a psychologist before earning her JD at Northeastern University School of Law in 1982). Her affinity for working with people is what keeps her enthusiasm high in the emotionally charged field of family law. As a mother of two, and stepmother to two, she is particularly sensitive to the effects divorce can have on a family and always strives to lessen the burden on both her clients and any children that might be caught in the middle. Her sensitivity, paired with her respected reputation from over 35 years of experience, is the reason that she is known as a trusted lawyer by the courts, and is often appointed by Supreme Court Judges to handle the toughest cases involving children.

Sandra is certified in the First Department as an attorney for children in hotly contested disputes over custody and visitation, thereby making her uniquely qualified to work with parents litigating child custody arrangements.

Ms. Schpoont began her career at Lans Feinberg and Cohen, a boutique matrimonial firm, where she first became acquainted with family law practice. She then left private practice to become a staff attorney with the Juvenile Rights Division of the Legal Aid Society, where she handled a wide range of family law matters on behalf of children. In 2001, Ms. Schpoont started her own firm handling all areas of family law and is currently the owner of the firm. In addition to being an attorney for children, Ms. Schpoont is also an experienced and trained parenting coordinator, helping co-parents navigate difficult parenting decisions and resolve disputes once their cases are no longer in court.

Ms. Schpoont was a co-chair of the Matrimonial Law Section of the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA), is a member of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, having served on its Matrimonial Committee, the Family Law Section of the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York and the Brooklyn Women's Bar Association and is a member of the Interdisciplinary Forum on Mental Health and the Law. She is on the faculty of the New York College of Matrimonial Trial Attorneys and has lectured on custody and equitable distribution to fellow attorneys. Sandra is often quoted in the media as an expert in the matrimonial law field, and is called on as an expert speaker by a number of the above associations.

Ms. Schpoont is admitted to practice law in the State of New York. She has been named to New York Super Lawyers in 2011 and from 2014-2023, an honor reserved for the top five percent of New York lawyers. She recently received American Registry's Award for America's Most Honored Professionals.

I consider myself extraordinarily fortunate to have gotten to know Sandy and to have had the benefit not only of her extraordinary legal expertise but of her patient, humane and thoughtful guidance throughout a period of protracted and intense stress in my life. She was always on hand with sound advice, and her deep understanding of the judicial process, and her experience of human nature, were of immeasurable help in finding good and lasting solutions to the very difficult problems that confronted me over several years. Look no further if you need legal help. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
